Fun in the sun: A look at youth summer sports camps, clinics in ...

The Girls' Sports Program at the San Antonio Sports Complex encourages socialization and personal empowerment.

Now that school is almost over, parents typically start looking for summer camps and fun outdoor activities for their children to do.

But if you haven't yet started or don't know where to begin, then don't worry - we've got your back. Oakland Local has searched and put together a list of free and affordable things for kids of all ages - especially young and teenage girls - to do this summer.

Girls' Sports Program

The city of Oakland's office of Parks and Recreation Youth Sports Department, has a new home. Since March, Oakland's boys and girls' sports programs are run and administered from the San Antonio Sports Complex, located at 1701 East 19th St. in Oakland.

?We were told in February that we were going to be given a center,? Christina Bagwell, the girl sports coordinator for the Girls' Sports Program at the complex, said. ?The focus of our center would be on providing a variety of sports that are out there. It gives us a little more flexibility and freedom. We now have more options to run programs freely or better.?

The girls' program consists of sports leagues, camps and clinics in basketball, softball, soccer and other sports. The program is available to young girls between the ages of 5 and 18.

?There?s this negative connotation with the city of Oakland. People assume that our programs are the same as neighboring cities," Bagwell said. "Our programs are ahead because most of them are free.?

Bagwell said that both the girls' and the youth sports programs have experienced many obstacles.

?There are always obstacles when it comes to city programs,? she said. ?However, we are trying to do more with less because our department is all about that. We find a way to hire and keep staff. This city-wide program serves hundreds of kids a day. Having this site will offer a solution to some of our obstacles, with one being staff retention.?

Aside from the sports programs offered, the office of Parks and Recreation also teaches girls about physical activities such as cheerleading, Double Dutch, track and field and golf.

?As a part of the program, we offer a girls? sports summer camp here at the San Antonio Sports Complex,? Bagwell said. ?Our services are offered to girls of different ages and stages. Young girls tend to go for Double Dutch, cheerleading and basketball. Most of them are drawn to that.?

?We do Junior Warriors, Junior Giants and Junior Football,? Bagwell added. ?We run that together. These are city-wide programs. We have tournaments held at centers all throughout Oakland.?

For more information, contact Bagwell at (510) 238-2952 or cbagwell@oaklandnet.com.

Girls' Sports Summer Camp

The goal of the Girls' Sports Summer Camp is for girls to be inspired and disciplined. According to Bagwell, girls in the camp have the ability to be both active and learn the concept of teamwork.

?We help girls build self-esteem, especially in a world where the media is telling them to be a certain way,? she said. ?This program is extremely important because it builds so many character traits that at times, are not identified in the moment. It both builds and reveals character. It also allows young girls to express themselves in a community environment.?

The registration deadline for this summer camp is June 15. The camp officially begins June 18 and ends Aug. 24. The fee for kids ages 6-12 is $50 and $30 for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 15.

?A big thing that we do here is introduce them to new avenues,? Bagwell said. ?There are sports other than basketball that they can do or get into.?

Weekly activities for the Girls' Sports Summer Camp include: swimming every Tuesday and Thursday at Fremont Pool - located at 4550 Foothill Blvd. in Oakland - and field trips every Friday.

?We often take field trips, go to recreation centers in the city and help the environment by taking public transportation on our trips,? Bagwell said. ?Before we didn?t have a site; this year we are hoping for an enrollment of 60 kids. We are excited to offer this program and are just trying to establish a foundation for programs and services to be offered for summers to come.?

The weekly field trip cost for kids is $15. The San Antonio Sports Complex hours are from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. There is a free summer lunch program included; after care from 3:30 to 6 p.m. is available for $10.

?We go to Six Flags, Great America and to an Oakland A?s and a San Francisco Giants game,? Bagwell said. ?Every Friday, the city rents buses and provides us with free transportation. We also go roller skating, ice skating, bowling, to the Oakland Zoo, Golden Gate Park, to the Grand Lake Theater, Roundtable Pizza and the East Oakland Sports Complex.?

Double Dutch

For four years now, the Redwood Heights Recreation Center has held a free double-dutch class. This year-round class meets every Friday at 3883 Aliso Ave. in Oakland. According to Bagwell, it is the most established Double Dutch class in the Bay Area.

?In my history, the department is so passionate to offer and serve the community,? she said. ?There is a lot of passion and commitment from our staff and department.?

Junior Giants T-Ball and Baseball

The Junior Giants baseball program is designed for kids of all ages. This is a free program that is held at recreation centers and other sites including Allendale, Golden Gate, Bushrod, FM Smith, Carmen Flores, Arroyo Viejo, Mosswood, Poplar, Lincoln Square, Manzanita, San Antonio, Franklin, Rainbow, Montclair, Dimond, Tassafaronga and Garfield.

?We definitely like to utilize our fellow regional parks, nearby cities and recreation centers,? Bagwell said. ?There are approximately 24 centers throughout the city of Oakland.?

The Junior Giants T-Ball program serves kids ages 4-8 and runs during July and August. According to Armond Gray, the youth sports coordinator for the Youth Sports Program, sign-ups have already begun.

?Although sign-ups started May 14 online or at any recreation center, the league starts June 23,? Gray said. ?People need to register on June 22 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. They can do so at their nearest recreation center or at whatever center they decide to play in.?

Depending on the site, practice days for Junior Giants T-Ball vary. Usually, game days are held on Wednesdays.

?We have ordered about 600 to 900 jerseys for the entire Junior Giants camp,? Bagwell said. ?The league is comprised primarily of middle school kids.?

Older kids between the ages of 7 and 19 can participate in this instructional baseball league, too. As with the T-ball league, these kids will play in the program from late June through mid-August.

?We are excited to offer so many programs,? Bagwell said. ?We don't like to close programs and turn down students. We have offered scholarships to many programs before. We know the benefit.?

For more information, contact Gray at (510) 238-6279 or agray@oaklandnet.com.

Ace Kids Golf

The Ace Kids Golf program is free for youth ages 9-17. It lasts through the summer and during each school year. Parents are advised not to drop off kids at selected golf courses. Instead, participants must be picked up from a recreation center or school site, transported to a golf course and then returned to the original pick-up location.

For more information, contact Preston Pinkney at (510) 351-5812, ext. 23 or ppinkney@oaklandnet.com.

First Swing Golf Program

Adults and kids of all ages are welcome to learn the basic skills needed to play the sport of golf. Classes are held on Mondays from 8 to 10 a.m. or from noon to 2 p.m. To learn more about youth and teen classes and class schedules, contact George Henderson at (510) 535-5608.

Warriors Basketball Camp Summer 2012

The Golden State Warriors will host five basketball camps in Oakland; including four starting July 9 at the Warriors Practice Facility in Downtown Oakland - located at 1011 Broadway. The other camp session will be held at Head-Royce School, located at 4315 Lincoln Ave. in Oakland.

Boys and girls, ages 7 to 15, have the opportunity to learn individual skill development and basketball fundamentals from current and former Warriors players and coaches. Prices range from $270 to $300. To receive discounts for multiple sessions and siblings, you must register by May 31.

For complete details on Warriors Basketball Camp and to sign-up online, visit warriors.com or call (510) 986-5310.

Oakland Middle School Soccer League

All middle schools in Oakland are invited to participate in the Oakland Middle School Soccer league. This league is run entirely by volunteer coaches. Schools that have played in this league prior to this year include KIPP, Lighthouse, Madison, Montera, UPA, UFS, ASCEND, Melrose, Roosevelt and Edna Brewer.

For more information, contact Matthew Linzner at (510) 407-5347 or sensesi7@gmail.com.

How To Shuck Corn | Cooking Therapy and Kitchen Cooking Tools

Tuesday, May 29th, 2012 at 6:48 pm?

Listen I love corn. There is nothing quite like the taste of fresh locally grown corn. The taste is sweet and succulent.
tasty and wonderful.

The only problem is shucking the corn. I?ve shucked many ears of corn. And the big problem has always been, how do you get rid of the silk.

The silk is messy and tends to stick to everything. There seems to be almost no way to get rid of it.The silk tends to stick to everything. I?ve spent lots of time trying to make sure my corn was clean and ready to eat.

Here is great way to shuck corn.

Insert Coin: Twig, the tiny iPhone cable that's also a tripod (video)

In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you'd like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with "Insert Coin" as the subject line.

Image

Imagine an iPhone cable that was only four-inches long, doubled as a tripod and could bend to your every whim? That's the idea behind Twig, designed by former WIMM engineer Jason Hilbourne, who wanted something sturdier, smaller and more portable than Cupertino's "limp noodle." In partnership with an iOS accessory maker, the cable's three sturdy prongs will transform into a dock, wrap around objects or create a free-standing tripod for your FaceTime needs. It needs $50,000 to turn from dismembered action-figure prototype to reality, with an $18 pledge enough to secure you one of the first to leave the factory. After the break we've got the pitch footage, which includes what happens when you start prototyping with your Speed Racer dolls.

Sundhage picks 6 newcomers for US Olympic team

Associated Press Sports

updated 3:02 p.m. ET May 27, 2012

CHICAGO (AP) - Abby Wambach returns to the U.S. Olympic team and Pia Sundhage picked six newcomers for the 18-woman squad that will try and defend its gold medal at this summer's London Games.

Wambach missed the Beijing Olympics after breaking her leg. She played in the 2004 Games, scoring the winning goal in the gold-medal game against Brazil.

Sydney Leroux, who has played in only nine games for the U.S., will make her Olympic debut along with Alex Morgan, Megan Rapinoe, Kelley O'Hara, Amy LePeilbet and Becky Sauerbrunn.

Captain Christie Rampone is the most veteran player on the squad, becoming the first player to make four Olympic teams. Rampone needs to play in only one more game to set the U.S. record for Olympic appearances.

China, Israel Pledge Closer Military Ties

China and Israel are taking steps to thaw a frosty relationship with a visit between the two countries? chiefs of staff. From the Washington Post:

The improved ties have been highlighted by this week?s visit to Beijing by Israel?s military chief and a training mission to Israel by the Chinese paramilitary force that, among other things, polices the restive Tibetan and Muslim Uighur regions. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to travel to China in the coming weeks.

[...] Chen told the official China Daily that China ?attaches importance to the ties with the Israeli military and is willing to make concerted efforts with the Israeli side to deepen pragmatic cooperation.?

In a statement released by the Israeli military, Gantz mentioned a commitment to developing the relationship, including ?joint courses that are scheduled to take place.? It did not elaborate.

Such comments are a remarkable turnaround from just a few years ago, when ties deteriorated after the failed arms deals.

In recent years, China has often found itself in the middle of tensions between Israel and Iran, which has bought Chinese military technology despite objections from the U.S. and other countries. For more on this, see a previous CDT post, ?Beijing Steers ?Tricky Path? With Iran.? Read more about Chinese relations with Israel via CDT.

theodore - Live, work and do business!: NETWORKING SUPER ...

You may be surprised to know that I am shy. People usually are. They see me speaking at a luncheon or Chamber function. It's much easier to speak to a room of people who are interested? in what I have to say (at lease I think they are) than it is at a cocktail reception or business after hours where I have to make small talk. If I had to network that way for my own small business, I would be terrible.

Yet, networking is vital for your business. And there is tremendous value in this collaboration for our local tourism industry. Our rural community is increasingly seen as a place for entertainment, leisure activities, and an alternative to a busy urban area. Visitor requests for information are more than three times what it was at this time last year. We can thank the beautiful cultural heritage of the Palouse region for this increased interest and can use this identity marker as a means to promote our farm products, cottage industries and other local producers through rural tourism.

Using our heritage for promotion is not only a fashionable trend right now, but also shows a community's social, economic and political determination. We are discovering a new-found interest for our own rural identity, and as tourists come into the area, they buy local products, eat in local restaurants and represent a sizeable source of income.

Visitors are intrigued when a restaurant features locally grown products or a boutique hotel has locally made lotions and soaps in each room. Let's work on promoting the region as a whole! This requires building these business relationships between grower/manufacturer and retail. The Pullman Chamber offers many networking options each month to get out and hobnob with other business owners - meetings, luncheons, and after-hours. What a great way to find that new product for your business, or a new way to incorporate the Palouse into your business identity.

And if your shy? Do what I do and check out the daily posts on the Chamber's facebook page and be armed with a current topic to talk about!

Faith community & police partnership evolves

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT)- Richmond Police teaming with the faith community to provide services is a proven successful partnership.?Just this week the program took on a life of its own when faith leaders responded to a homicide on Barton Avenue.

Police Chief Bryan Norwood told NBC12 that response from faith leaders, without a direct invitation, is an exciting piece of the puzzle in terms of fighting crime in the city.?He called it an evolution of this partnership, which was started almost two years ago.

When police found Antoine Saunders shot to death on the sidewalk in broad daylight Tuesday, Pastor Alex Boyd and a handful of faith leaders also rushed to the north side scene to see if they could help Saunders' family and the community cope.

"It's a tragedy," Pastor Boyd told us.?"It's sad that the cream of our crop, our young men especially, are dying on the streets like this."

Police Chief Bryan Norwood told us Thursday, they've been talking about this kind of response for quite some time.

"The sense of urgency from the pastors that showed up and the sense of relief from the community who sought some interaction with those pastors was integral," he said.

It is a special kind of interaction.

"They bring a different level of relief to folks," Norwood explained.?"A uniform prohibits us from having a certain interaction with people. The faith leaders can bridge that gap and do so in a way that calms the neighborhood."

Initially, the Richmond Police Department focused its efforts where it said the need was the greatest.?Faith "walk-thrus" bring employment opportunities, school supplies, health screenings, literacy programs and familiarity to the city's courts.

"We're really investing in our trust account," Chief Norwood said.

He also believes sometimes residents feel more comfortable talking to faith leaders about patrol needs.?By doing that, the message gets passed along to police.

Now, the partners will revisit the courts and also expand to other neighborhoods in need.

"Every other institution has had a shot, right," Pastor Boyd asked.?"So now it's time for the church to step up and reach these young people before these tragedies happen."

If your faith organization wants to partner police or if you'd like them to visit your neighborhood, Chief Norwood said they're accepting all faiths and all requests.?Just contact headquarters.

Technological savvy part of senior's drive to help others

ST. CHARLES ? Brian Ricketts had no trouble falling in love with robots.

After all, as he tells it, robotics have become an essential part of his life.

?There aren?t many people that can say they have a microprocessor in their leg,? Ricketts said, with a sly grin.

For as long as he can remember, Ricketts, a graduating senior at St. Charles North High School, has been fascinated by computers, the technological devices they power and the way they run.

At the age of 7 or 9, he began programming computers.

And those speaking with the young man or his mother, Julie Ricketts, of St. Charles, easily could be overwhelmed by the tales they might share of the tinkering Brian has done with household appliances and devices.

His mother noted, for instance, that his favorite toy when he was 2 years old was a surge suppressor.

Lately, those urges have turned to video games, which Brian creates himself, and gaming systems, which he might take apart and rewrite some code to make it do things it otherwise could not.

He reprogrammed a Microsoft Xbox Kinect system to allow users to ?fly? a virtual aircraft by moving their hands or speaking commands.

?It?s how I like to spend my free time,? Ricketts said.

So when the opportunity arose for Ricketts to join the competitive robotics team, PWNAGE Team 2949, sponsored by St. Charles manufacturer Genesis Automation, he did not think on the decision too long.

?I used to be in the Boy Scouts, and I tried piano lessons,? said Ricketts. ?But then I found robotics. And I thought, ?This is where I belong.??

Ricketts joined the team in his senior year, becoming one of the later members of a group that is interested and skilled in engineering, computer programming and other disciplines related to robotics.

The team takes its robots to regional competitions against those designed by other high school teams in task-based contests.

Teams were judged this year on their robots? abilities to move about a playing court, pick up foam basketballs and throw them through small basketball hoops.

Ricketts helped program the robot and said he loved every minute of the work and the competition.

Marsha Brown, technology and engineering instructor at St. Charles North, said Ricketts? infatuation with robotics should not be a surprise to anyone.

?There are things I?m learning from him,? Brown said. ?With the programming, and the things he?s able to do, it?s just nuts sometimes.?

In a class project earlier this year, students were asked to create a machine that could accurately launch ping-pong balls.

Ricketts? team created an accurate launcher. But then they went further, making their machine mobile.

?It did shock me when it moved around the room, because no one had told me,? Brown said.

Ricketts still laughs about that project.

?You should have seen the look on her face,? he said, chuckling.

Brown said Ricketts? penchant for exceeding expectations, along with his knowledge and ability, is what sets him apart.

?He is just so knowledgable about these things,? Brown said. ?So passionate and so driven.?

Ricketts, however, demonstrated his drive in more than just robotics projects or at-home tinkering.

At age 6, he was diagnosed with cancer in his left leg. Despite treatment, the cancer spread to his knee. Ultimately, doctors amputated his leg at the thigh.

Not until about two years ago, after a fight that lasted almost a decade, did doctors declare the cancer in remission.

In the years since the amputation, Ricketts learned to walk with a prosthesis, including a recent model that includes technology to help prevent him from falling.

?So I guess you can say I have experience with a robot on my knee,? he said with a grin.

Ricketts enrolled at DePaul University and will attend classes in the fall. He will major in computer science.

He said he has not decided yet how he wants to use his technological abilities, although he did mention a fascination with virtual reality and autonomous automobiles. And he wasn?t averse to defense applications, he said.

?That would be kind of cool, maybe working with drones,? Ricketts said.

No matter what he does, Ricketts said he wants his work to focus on one thing:

?I want to make technologies to make people?s lives easier. It?s so important to me.?

NEWSMAKER: Brotherhood man promises Islamic law in Egypt

CAIRO (Reuters) - When he joined the race for Egypt's presidency just five weeks ago, Mohamed Mursi was mocked as the Muslim Brotherhood's uncharismatic "spare tyre" after its first-choice candidate was disqualified.

But the 60-year-old engineer came first in the opening round, according to a Brotherhood tally after most votes were counted, thanks to a campaign that showed off the unequalled political muscle of Egypt's oldest Islamist movement.

The run-off on June 16 and 17 with second-placed Ahmed Shafiq, who served as deposed leader Hosni Mubarak's last prime minister, gives Egyptians a stark choice between a military man linked to the past and an Islamist whose conservative message appeals to some and alarms others in this nation of 82 million.

A Brotherhood official said that with votes counted from about 12,800 of the roughly 13,100 polling stations, Mursi had 25 percent, Shafiq 23 percent, a rival Islamist Abdel Moneim Abol Fotouh 20 percent and leftist Hamdeen Sabahy 19 percent.

Calling himself the only authentic Islamist in the race, Mursi has targeted devout voters whose support helped the Brotherhood and the ultra-orthodox Salafi Islamist movement to secure 70 percent of parliament seats earlier this year.

He has promised to implement Islamic sharia during rallies peppered with references to the Koran, God and the Prophet Mohammad and occasionally interrupted by pauses for mass prayer.

But he has seldom spelt out what that would mean for Egypt, where piety runs deep and the constitution already defines the principles of Islamic law as the main source of legislation.

Mursi has called for a review of Cairo's 1979 peace treaty with Israel, saying Egypt's neighbour has not respected the agreement, a line mirroring that of most of the other candidates in the race. The group has said it will not tear up the deal.

"We will take a serious step towards a better future, God willing," Mursi said at his final campaign rally on Sunday, promising to combat any corrupt hangers-on from Mubarak's era.

"If they take a step to take us backwards, to forge the will (of the people) and fiddle with security, we know who they are," he said. "We will throw them in the rubbish bin of history."

Mursi has cast himself as a reluctant latecomer to the election who is running for the sake of the nation and God.

EMPHASIS ON SHARIA

A stocky, bespectacled man with a grey-white beard, Mursi has traveled across Egypt promoting the Brotherhood's "renaissance project" - an 80-page manifesto based on what it terms its "centrist understanding" of Islam.

His success has dismayed non-Islamists, not least Christians who make up about a tenth of the population, unconvinced by promises that freedoms will be safe in a Brotherhood-led Egypt.

"It was for the sake of the Islamic sharia that men were ... thrown into prison. Their blood and existence rests on our shoulders now," Mursi said during one campaign rally.

"We will work together to realise their dream of implementing sharia," said the Brotherhood contender, who himself spent time in jail under Mubarak.

Mursi, who obtained his doctorate from the United States, is a long-serving, influential figure in the Brotherhood, a movement outlawed under Mubarak but which won close to half of the seats in parliamentary elections held after his overthrow.

Mursi ran only after the electoral commission barred Khairat al-Shater, the Brotherhood's preferred candidate, in April.

Like other Islamist contenders, Mursi has courted the ultra-orthodox Salafi Islamist movement, which has emerged in the past year to challenge the Brotherhood's dominance.

The Nour Party, a Salafi group that won more than a fifth of the seats in the parliamentary vote, endorsed Mursi's main Islamist rival, Abol Fotouh, who parted ways with the Brotherhood last year and cast himself as a moderate.

In a gesture to Gama'a al-Islamiya, another Salafi group, Mursi has pledged to work for the release of Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, a militant preacher imprisoned in the United States in the 1990s for plotting attacks in New York.

Abdel-Rahman is the spiritual leader of Gama'a al-Islamiya, which was involved in the 1981 assassination of President Anwar Sadat but renounced violence in 1997. The group has entered mainstream politics since Mubarak was toppled.

Another cleric, the independent Safwat el-Hegazi, added a radical flavour to Mursi's campaign, taking to the stage at his events to call for a Muslim super-state with Jerusalem as its capital and drawing enthusiastic chants from the crowds.

RURAL CHILDHOOD

Mursi's own speech-making style is stiff and formal. Critics say he lacks the charisma of some of his rivals. Other Brotherhood leaders, Shater among them, have appeared alongside Mursi at campaign events, reinforcing the impression this is a presidential bid by a movement, not an individual.

The son of a peasant, Mursi has spoken of a simple childhood in a village in the Nile Delta province of Sharqia, recalling how his mother taught him prayer and the Koran.

He studied engineering at Cairo University and in 1978 went to California to complete his studies. He returned to Egypt in 1985. Two of his five children hold U.S. citizenship.

Helmi el-Gazzar, a Brotherhood MP who has known Mursi for years, describes him as a scientific character with an analytical mind. "He was an indefatigable man, tangibly eager to perform the tasks for which he was responsible," Gazzar told Reuters, recalling his days working with Mursi in Cairo.

Mursi's critics portray him as a Brotherhood apparatchik and part of a conservative clique within the group who has long been dismissive of other political forces in Egypt.

"He feels they do not have roots in the Egyptian street," said Mohamed Habib, a former deputy Brotherhood leader, who left the group last year in protest at its post-Mubarak policies.

Head of the Freedom and Justice Party that the Brotherhood established last year, Mursi comes across as deeply committed to the 84-year-old movement. His daughter is married to the son of another Brotherhood leader and he has described his wife, who wears a long, cape-like headscarf, as a Brotherhood activist.

GOD AND NATION

Like other members, Mursi has sworn allegiance to the Brotherhood, raising questions over whether that would outweigh his loyalty to Egypt. Brotherhood leader Mohamed Badie has said Mursi would be relieved of the oath if elected president.

Mursi has described his challenge for the presidency in terms of duty. "I am walking this path to satisfy God and out of concern for our nation and people," he said.

Despite his campaign trail emphasis on Islamic law, when it comes to television interviews, he has typically tried to ease concerns about what Islamist rule would mean.

For example, he has said Egypt will not become a theocracy, adding that there is little difference between the phrase "the principles of the sharia" - the term found in the current Egyptian constitution - and the sharia itself.

Pushed by one TV interviewer to clarify what Islamist rule might mean for bikini-wearing on Egypt's beaches - one element of a vital tourist industry - Mursi did not give a clear answer.

He described such issues as "very marginal, very superficial and affecting a very limited number of places", adding that sector specialists must be consulted on all draft laws.

The Brotherhood's "renaissance" programme sketches out the group's vision on everything from fighting inflation to forging ties with the United States on a more equal footing. It envisions deeper ties with Turkey - a Muslim state that Brotherhood leaders often cite as a model of success.

Mursi has cited fear of judgment day as one reason for seeking the Egypt's top office. "We are worried that God will ask us, on the day of reckoning: 'What did you do when you saw that the nation was in need of sacrifice and effort?'" he said.

PC Software World ? Communication Is Essential cheap jerseys For ...

When individuals are told which they want to speak much more they generally believe that that is certainly cheap jerseys an open invitation to talk but there is certainly a full distinction between talking and communicating.

Communicating is definitely an artwork, and art of mixing the ability to precise your thoughts and feelings in this kind of a means as to make sure the person or individuals you?re speaking to understand what you are attempting to say using the capacity to pay attention and have an understanding of an additional persons point of view.

The amount of occasions I have sat inside a space, usually in conferences and at conferences and Ive just viewed and listened to what?s heading on around me. It is entirely fascinating when whole teams of individuals don?t have any capability to hear their colleagues, companions or buddies and for that reason can?t fully grasp or appreciate any opinion apart from their own.

What could have already been lined in five minutes or learned in fifty percent an hour generally takes hrs or days just because folks refuse to take a seat again, cheap nfl jerseys listen and understand.

Over the years its awesome the amount of instances persons are offered with data that, when they acted on, could totally alter a relationship, career or perhaps the results of the small business. But, because the sheer absence of peoples capability to listen to and assume by means of another individuals viewpoint unique possibilities move them by.

Associations aren?t any distinct for the work environment aside from you will find, ordinarily, just two of you. Frequently, what may be a marriage created in heaven is wrecked through the sheer inability to speak. cheap jerseys By far the most successful relationships, be it business or personnel are these whereby each parties have strong verbal and listening skills.

Several connection complications begin with very poor communication. Partners often feel that their companion really should understand what they may be pondering and the way they really feel so usually do not talk then surprise why they really feel neglected and beneath valued.

How many people make a decision to not inform their partner a thing just because they dont know the way to say it and then the issue just eats away at the connection until there is no connection left What a squander, just the sheer capacity to reveal a problem can make what appeared to be an insurmountable problem a tiny small blip on the big horizon.

So each time you really feel pressured or dont know what to do dont just bottle it up, speak about it, look for assistance and pay attention for the answer. Dont keep peaceful cheap jerseys any time you know in your coronary heart a problem has to become aired and dont put off until tomorrow what has to become sorted at this time. Tomorrow never ever arrives!!

It?s how you say something which will ruin a connection and not what you must say. The wrong way is simply to blurt out something that you know will aggravate or distress your partner. The final thing you desire is for them to obtain defensive, storm off or burst into floods of tears. You need the person you will be attempting to communicate with to be open up and perceptive and to be able to be able to achieve this, your timing and strategy has to be suitable.

Just about every individual is distinctive what will operate with one person wont automatically function with an additional and with some people all you?ll be able to do is sew the seed after which permit them walk absent and operate it out for their selves.

One person I know by no means essentially listens to everyone. She?s one of those people who?s normally correct irrespective of what, hasnt a clue about being a group participant and operates within a zero tolerance zone. Standard ways and strategy of reasoning just dont perform and alls you are able to do is plant the seed of thought which ultimately develops into her, personal acceptable idea.

Given peoples individuality you?ll need to understand what, may be the cheap nfl jerseys correct approach for you personally and your partner. Be certain which you in no way start out a dialogue should you dont have time for you to end it, dont insist on a discussion when one of you is off out to work, dealing with the children or just soothing in front of their favourite Television programme. When the timing appears to be under no circumstances suitable ask the query when would it be a fantastic time for us to only sit down and talk. Whatever you do, don?t permit yourself seem agitated either in whatever you say or how you say it. Physique language can equally as very easily put your partner on the defensive as what you say to them. Even when your companion is vying for any battle just dont react.

Recall, the very first golden rule, approaching defensive with defensive is actually a positive method to failure.

One from the important approaches to strengthen communication will be to create strong listening abilities. Couples often fall short to pay attention to what their partner must say, interrupt and provides the impression that irrespective of what?s mentioned they wont alter their mind. One trick to make sure that you have listened and you do have an understanding of would be to repeat what you may have noticed. This may demonstrate that you simply have listened to what was mentioned and by repeating it again you have the chance to comprehend and have an understanding of.

How often do we try and work via an issue and its only at the point we are describing the concern to a person else does the magic light bulb switch on which permits us to come up using the solution.

In case you are getting an examination would you anticipate to understand anything simply by getting informed it once For many persons I would say not. We?ve to operate at it and operate at it difficult.

No one ever before stated marriage could be easy its just a different lesson we have to learn as we knowledge life but if you want to preserve your marriage and allow it to be a lot more specific than it was prior to then there?s extremely small to stop you.

Connection challenges can lay heavy in your thoughts, develop into a burden and what was originally a modest issue can develop into an insurmountable mountain.

In case you begin to really feel that marital issues are beginning to weigh seriously on your thoughts, take a break and do a thing you appreciate and ideally with your partner. When you can refocus your awareness in the much better issues in life, day to day problems always appear that much smaller sized. Spending slightly time together and savoring every other?s company could allow you and your companion to recapture a number of the feelings that have been dropped via constant arguing and assist you to get back a constructive perspective on your connection.

Just one last term of tips, when you are experiencing down and feel you no lengthier want to conserve your marriage just keep in mind that the grass isnt always greener around the other aspect.

For those who believe you have got economic difficulties now what do you think it?ll be like any time you split your belongings, for those who feel you dont have time to do factors what is going to it be like when you are on your personal or worse only one guardian and should you really feel lonely now how will you really feel when each time you stroll in your front door alls you may have is your own company. Now none of these ideas happen to be aired to encourage you to remain in a bad connection but fairly to create you take into consideration regardless of whether or not yours is as poor when you consider.

You might be the grasp of one?s own future and if you want to turn a poor marriage around you might have the power at your fingertips.

Headaches Migraines: Health and Fitness: Headaches Migraines ...

Many people suffer from tension headaches. In fact, four percent of the adult United States population have headaches on a daily basis. Approximately 7 million people suffer from headaches at least every other day, which translates into millions of lost workdays and severely impacts work efficiency.

In medical terms, a stress or tension headache is called a cervicogenic headache which means it originates with irritated nerves and joints in the upper neck, and refers pain into the head.

There is much research and anecdotal evidence that chiropractic care can help headaches. This article will describe a typical first visit to a chiropractor to determine if a patient can be helped by chiropractic therapy, or if the patient would best be seen by another health practitioner.

As with all visits to a doctor you will be asked to give some written information. This information will allow you to detail when your headaches originally began, how often the headaches occur, how the headaches vary in pain intensity, what other doctors and specialists you have seen, and any diagnostic testing you have previously had.

Next, you will meet with the chiropractor so that you can talk further about your headaches. He will want to know in which areas of your head you feel the pain. For instance, some people get headaches in the back of the head, where others get pain in the side of the head or around the temples. Still others get pain in the forehead or around the eyes or frontal sinuses. The doctor of chiropractic will want to know if anything triggers or causes your headaches to begin. Examples of this would be: fatigue, stress, posture, work station set-up, certain foods, and weather or environmental factors. It will be helpful for the chiropractor to know if you have had loss or disturbance of vision or hearing, weakness, or loss of consciousness. The chiropractor will ask of there is anything you do on your own to help your headaches such as take medication, use ice or heat applications or rub an ointment or cream on specific areas. It is always helpful to know how your headaches might keep you from being able to sleep normally, perform chores in the yard or at home, do your usual job and employment duties, enjoy social activities, sports, or hobbies.

Next, the chiropractor will want to check you physically. Palpation, or feeling the upper neck, might reveal muscle tightness or spasm, swelling and inflammation, and pressure points of tenderness. Checking for proper movements of the head and neck might show a loss of the normal range of motion of the neck. Looking at your posture might show that a "slouched" upper body appearance may be causing or contributing to your discomfort. There are neurological tests and orthopedic tests that the chiropractor has been thoroughly trained in that will be helpful in rendering a diagnosis.

Following this, the chiropractor may take x-rays of your neck which might show signs of misalignment, degeneration, or arthritis. The chiropractor will also inspect for fractures, dislocations or bone destruction.

Once these steps have been accomplished, the chiropractor can determine a diagnosis and be able to give you a good idea if your condition is one in which he might be able to help, and accept your case.

Many people suffering from headaches have responded well to chiropractic therapy. If you have seen other doctors and tried other types of care but have not seen a chiropractor for you headaches, it is certainly a prudent next step. If the chiropractor can help you, he will let you know. If he can't, he will tell you that also and make an appropriate referral to someone else.

How Business Processing Outsourcing Helps Reduce Overhead Costs

A lot of companies, services and other types of businesses rely upon business process outsourcing to facilitate a cost effective means to an end. The key goal of a business processing outsourcing services provider is to adequately meet the needs of their clients while helping them maintain the same quality of service that their clients have grown to expect, while at the same time reducing the overhead costs associated with providing such key business prospects. If you have ever wondered how business process outsourcing helps to lower overhead costs for any given business, make sure to read this article to gain some insight on the matter.

What is Business Processing Outsourcing?

In a nutshell, business process outsourcing is a means of outsourcing the same tedious business processes that are typically conducted in-house to an outsourcing partner ? generally overseas ? for a reduced cost.

This type of outsourcing is supposed to lower operating costs of any entity while not compromising on quality or service. One must exercise caution when seeking a services provider to ensure that quality never suffers in place of lower operation costs at the risk of losing customer loyalty.

Is Business Processing Outsourcing Expensive?

The short answer is: NO. The primary reason why companies rely upon business process outsourcing is to lower their overhead expenditures. At the same time, one must always ensure that they are not reducing quality by reducing operating costs. That?s why it?s crucial to conduct due diligence on any such provider beforehand.

Comparing Costs of Business Process Outsourcing to In-House Costs

Will using such viable and affordable services be more affordable than the in-house and domestic services you rely upon? The answer is: yes and yes. Since outsourcing services rely upon international partners that exist in a setting that has a lower cost per living average, the services are far more affordable, but that does not mean you compromise on quality to get them.

Is Business Processing Outsourcing Better Domestic or International?

An easy answer to this question is that you want to opt for a services provider that has multinational presence. In this manner, they can meet and exceed your expectations. It is ill advised to just go with any international provider. Ensure they have a domestic and an international presence for the best results.

How Business Processing Outsourcing Helps Reduce Overhead Costs

The math is rather simple here. Say you are spending X amount on your business processes already. Now let?s say that you can spend a fraction of X amount on the same business processes with the same or better quality when they are outsourced. The quick question you should ask yourself is: do you want to continue overpaying for the very same thing that you could be getting for a fraction of the price? In every instance, the answer is that businesses can and will do what they need to save money while delivering the same quality.

M's Liddi first Italian to hit grand slam in half-century

By TIM BOOTH

AP Sports Writer

Associated Press Sports

updated 9:24 p.m. ET May 23, 2012

SEATTLE (AP) - Considering his rarified place in baseball history, it's no wonder Alex Liddi could not stop grinning.

He also wouldn't mind getting use to the occasional curtain call.

"Obviously big-time guys do it and when you have to do it, it's a good thing," Liddi said.

Liddi hit the first major league grand slam by an Italian-born player in half-century, Kevin Millwood threw six shutout innings and the Seattle Mariners took two of three from AL West-leading Texas with a 5-3 win over the Rangers on Wednesday.

Liddi made Texas manager Ron Washington pay for the decision to pitch around Dustin Ackley with one out in the fifth inning. Ackley was intentionally walked to load the bases, and Liddi lined the first pitch from Scott Feldman (0-2) just over the yellow line on top of the left-field wall for his third homer this season.

The opportunities for Liddi have been few. Wednesday was his 20th start in 46 games. He came up as a third baseman, but with the emergence of Kyle Seager as the Mariners everyday third baseman for now, Liddi has learned how to play first base and made his second start of the season on Wednesday in left field.

Almost on cue, his day started rough when he lost a fly ball against a cloudy, but bright sky and committed a two-base error in the second inning. But that became an afterthought thanks to his slam in the fifth.

"He's a guy that's capable of doing some damage up there. He works as hard as anybody we have. That's the reason he's able to maintain the way he does when he doesn't play," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said. "He's still a young hitter, but he's learned how to hit."

Millwood (3-4) was brilliant for a third consecutive start. Coming off a two-hitter at Colorado, Millwood gave up three hits in six innings. Only a high pitch count ended his day early.

Millwood silenced yet another former team, and holding the top offense in baseball to just three hits might have been more impressive than his complete game against the Rockies. Millwood has gone 17 straight innings without allowing a run. Dating back to a three-run second inning against Detroit on May 8, Millwood has given up just one run in his last 25 innings. The 17 straight scoreless innings is the second-longest streak of his career.

"The biggest thing was just confidence has been building for the last couple of weeks so I felt like when I got out there it just felt like I was going to have a good game and throw the ball well," Millwood said. "When I missed guys made good plays or they just fouled it off. Confidence goes a long ways in this game."

Texas made it interesting breaking up the shutout with Josh Hamilton's RBI double and Adrian Beltre's two-run homer in the eighth off reliever Tom Wilhelmsen. But Brandon League rebounded from some shaky recent outings and shut down the Rangers in the ninth for his ninth save in 12 chances.

Liddi was the lone hitting star for Seattle, which won with only four hits. He doubled in the first, but was caught too far off the bag when Ichiro Suzuki lined out and was doubled up to end the inning. Feldman then walked the bases loaded to begin the third, and Michael Saunders' fly ball to center was deep enough to score Kyle Seager.

Saunders opened the fifth with a walk and Mike Carp followed with a bloop single that fell into shallow left and just out of the reach of shortstop Elvis Andrus. Saunders and Carp advanced 90 feet when Ian Kinsler failed to catch Feldman's pickoff attempt at second base, but held as Brendan Ryan grounded out to shortstop with the infield playing in.

Ackley was walked intentionally to bring up Liddi. Given a pitch at the top of the strike zone to start the at-bat, Liddi turned on the pitch, lining it down the left-field line and barely clearing the hand-operated scoreboard.

"He made one bad pitch to Liddi. Other than that I thought he made a ton of good pitches," Washington said of Feldman. "It was unfortunate the one bad pitch he made they got four runs on. He tried to throw a sinker and it didn't sink."

Liddi's slam was just the second in major league history by an Italian born player. Reno Bertoia hit a grand slam on May 7, 1958, for Detroit against Washington.

"As a hitter it's always a good challenge, because they just walked the guys in front of you," Liddi said. "I'm always pumped when that happens."

NOTES: Feldman tied his career high with five walks in 4 1-3 innings. He was starting in place of Neftali Feliz, who went on the disabled list Monday. ... Liddi's grand slam was the second this season for Seattle. Saunders hit a grand slam earlier this month in Toronto. ... The Rangers had won five straight road series vs. AL West foes. ... Millwood was 0-2 with a 10.05 ERA in three starts at Safeco Field this season.

Ancient Bethlehem seal unearthed in Jerusalem

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Israeli archaeologists have discovered a 2,700-year-old seal that bears the inscription "Bethlehem," the Israel Antiquities Authority announced Wednesday, in what experts believe to be the oldest artifact with the name of Jesus' traditional birthplace.

The tiny clay seal's existence and age provide vivid evidence that Bethlehem was not just the name of a fabled biblical town, but also a bustling place of trade linked to the nearby city of Jerusalem, archaeologists said.

Eli Shukron, the authority's director of excavations, said the find was significant because it is the first time the name "Bethlehem" appears outside of a biblical text from that period.

Shukron said the seal, 1.5 centimeters (0.59 inches) in diameter, dates back to the period of the first biblical Jewish Temple, between the eighth and seventh century B.C., at a time when Jewish kings reigned over the ancient kingdom of Judah and 700 years before Jesus was born.

The seal was written in ancient Hebrew script from the same time. Pottery found nearby also dated back to the same period, he said.

Shmuel Achituv, an expert in ancient scripts at Israel's Ben-Gurion University who did not participate in the dig, said the discovery was the oldest reference to Bethlehem ever found outside of the Bible. Apart from the seal, the other mentions of Bethlehem, Achituv said, "are only in the Bible."

The stamp, also known as "fiscal bulla," was likely used to seal an administrative tax document, sent from Bethlehem to Jerusalem, the seat of Jewish power at the time.

It was found as archaeologists sifted through mounds of dirt they had dug up in an excavation outside Jerusalem's Old City walls.

Shukron said the first line most likely read "Beshava'at" ? or "in the seventh" ? most likely the year of the reign of a king. The second line, he said, has the crumbling letters of the word "Bethlehem." The third line carried one letter, a "ch" which Shukron said was the last letter of the Hebrew work for king, "melech."

Hebrew words often do not have vowels, which are understood from the context, making several interpretations of the same word plausible. Some of the letters are crumbled, or were wiped away. Three experts interviewed by the AP, one involved in the text and two independents, concurred the seal says Bethlehem.

There are only some 40 other existing seals of this kind from the first Jewish Temple period, said Achituv, making this a significant find, both because such seals are rare, and because this is the first to mention Bethlehem.

The dig itself has raised controversy.

It is being underwritten by an extreme-right wing Jewish organization that seeks to populate the crowded Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan with Jewish settlers, arguing that they have ancient links to the area. The dig is being undertaken in a national park in the area of Silwan, known to Jews as "the City of David."

Shukron said the seal was found some months ago, but they needed time to confirm the identity of the artifact.
